Ep. 5.6: Thanks + Giving

Some simple exercises of gratitude for this week.

A small love note of grounding exercises from us for your week ahead:

Consider checking out a cookbook from the library, or exploring a new recipe from a favorite food blog. You might like Bryant Terry’s Vegetable Kingdom: The Abundant World of Vegan Recipes. Whether you are sharing food with family, a loved one, or in the great embrace of the universe, we hope it brings you nourishment and warmth this week.

If you are not indigenous to the land where you live, take time to learn about First Nations and their many histories of resilience despite tremendous violence inflicted by European colonizers. You might start here and here. Consider watching Gather, a new, fantastic documentary exploring indigenous foodways and ingenuity. Also, look for a local organization that you can donate to, whether a small or large amount, as an act of resistance towards dominant histories that silence parts of our histories.

You might support a small nearby farm this season, especially as many of them tuck in for the winter. If you are able, consider a winter CSA box or a sustainably grown Christmas tree, if that is your tradition. Christy found this sweet gem of a farm to source her tree from this year.

Finally, we hope you have a moment to make a cup of tea, light a candle, and reflect for a few minutes on what you need in this season and what you are ready to contribute to the world. Eva asks in today’s episode, “What is mine to do? What is not mine to do?” Being clear on this helps us begin to develop sustainable practices that lend towards a more just future and a more integrated sense of self and community. This inventory might be an excellent place to start.

Above all, wishing you grounding this season.
